Excellent class, like all the classes by this teacher. Thanks for extremely clear and simple demonstrations, I finally understood those tricky aspects of perspective and as a result have gained a lot more freedom and expression in my drawings. Please make more classes.

Just a thank you! I wanted a quick and easy reminder of the practical aspects of dealing with perspective and I managed to complete the course in a day, in two sittings. That’s what I really like about Steve’s course…its to the point, easy to understand, easy to apply and makes a lot of sense, esp if you (like me) wanted a quick refresher…

I had no idea you could have multiple horizon lines in a drawing, which is very helpful to know, and putting things into boxes also seems very helpful. I also really liked the sloping road lesson, the reflection lesson with the tall rectangle in the slanted mirror, the person standing in front of a mirror and above water, and finding the center of things. Great class!

Draw anything (mantis/bug)

This class walks you through a constructive (constructional?) approach to drawing scenes from your imagination. The method presented is applicable to almost everything—car and mantis are just the teacher’s example. I highly recommend this class to anyone who wants to draw from imagination and doesn’t quite have a process/approach yet.

I truly enjoyed this class and I am very grateful for it. I am one of those professional character designers that hide from whole-scene projects with intimidating perspective because I have never mastered it. This class gave me some very easy language, visually and literally, that I can now use to engage artwork and enter more confidently into perspective drawings. Thank you very much for creating this class!

This is a great class, probably underrated because it might not look cool to draw box mannequins despite their usefulness. I stumbled across the concept recently and it has already made a huge difference in my understanding of figures in space. For the first time I feel posing figures from imagination is something I can master as well, and I’m now well on my way. This class came just at the right time for me, reinforcing these ideas and adding some more insight from an accomplished artist. Steve spends a lot of time drawing examples which is useful to really understand the concept. It felt a bit long for me at the end, but because Steve adds useful comments here and there from his experience as a storyboard artist, or how he applies this, or how he practices, I watched everything carefully. In my own beginner process, box mannequins are the second step. The first is to very loosely sketch in volumes and gesture. I use a large, soft charcoal stick, Steven suggests ovals. Over that comes the box mannequin where I need to define orientation, twist, bend, center line, overlap etc. If that step fails, I can start over and haven’t lost much time. On top of the box mannequins comes a line drawing, and then further refinements depending on where I want to go. This is also the process Steve shows at the very end. At the end, Steve also gives a few ideas how to practice poses with videos and from imagination. Basic ideas, but very useful and they hadn’t occurred to me yet. I would highly recommend this class to anyone who wants to get into figure drawing, either from life or from imagination, or who is at an intermediate stage but hasn’t fully developed the skill of posing figures naturally in space.

Excellent class and essential to understand the mechanics of the body and draw the figure in movement accurately. An absolutely must for illustration. Thank you Steve for sharing such valuable information.

I always felt uncomfortable about drawing boxes in perspective. This class helped me to draw them more confidently: The demonstrations were very good and gave me some aha moments, and the exercises were really doable. I had fun filling some pages with boxes. So if you want to draw boxes in a more correct perspective you should watch this class and then DO the exercises!

I’ve attempted learning the Loomis method with several tutorials but it never made sense to me until after this class! I think combining the planes of the head with it made it make more sense to me. I saw improvement in my drawing just from the beginning to the end of the course.

A very well done class – filled with good information and tips on how to draw cats. The audio and video are consistent throughout the sessions, and the teacher is engaging and personable.

I really enjoyed Steves course. I have been drawing all my life, but had no idea how to draw dogs, draw dog anatomy or understand muscle groups. Steve takes you through a basic breakdown from beginning to end. I felt much improvement during the course. I appreciated the action steps after each module. However, even though I feel like I have a basic understanding of the bones and proportions, I still find it difficult to draw the legs and their angels just right. Even though each section module of class covers some great parts of learning how to draw dogs, I felt like the muscle anatomy could have been extended… I mean you could spend a whole month on their muscle anatomy. It was a bit quick in my opinion, ubt just enough to give you the right ideas. Anyways, if your looking to draw dogs, I totally recommend this course and will take it again in the future!
